Hemorrhage Control Leg Trainer
Hemorrhage Control Leg Trainer: Realistic and Effective Training Tool
The Hemorrhage Control Leg Trainer is an advanced medical simulation device designed to provide highly realistic training for managing severe bleeding on the lower extremity. It is an invaluable tool for improving pre-hospital patient care through both instructional and hands-on practice in hemorrhage control, including wound packing and tourniquet application. This simulator is particularly well-suited for Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) scenarios.
Key Features and Benefits
Realistic Wound Simulation
The Hemorrhage Control Leg is an accessible and efficient solution for realistic training in bleeding control and trauma management on the thigh. Trainees gain confidence in applying critical life-saving techniques, including the use of tourniquets, wound packing, and managing amputations. The leg trainer (model P103) is equipped with three distinct wound patterns:
- Deep laceration (~4 cm deep) in the groin area
- Gunshot wound (GSW) with entry and exit points on the upper thigh
- Amputation wound in the knee region
Realistic Bleeding Scenarios
A manual blood pump system allows for independent or combined bleeding from each wound. The system can simulate various venous or arterial bleeding patterns, including pulsatile hemorrhage. Trainees receive immediate visual feedback: bleeding stops when the correct hemorrhage control technique is applied.
Description
Training Capabilities
Limb Tourniquet Application
- Tourniquets can be applied “high and tight” at the proximal end of the extremity or 5-8 cm above the wound.
- If applied correctly, bleeding stops automatically due to mechanical occlusion of blood vessels.
- Dual tourniquet application can also be practiced.
Wound Packing
- Deep lacerations and gunshot wounds can be palpated for the injured vessel and packed with gauze.
Hemostatic Device Application
- Gunshot wounds are compatible with XSTAT® hemostatic devices.
Stump and Large Wound Dressing
- Trainees can practice stump dressing techniques for large surface wounds.
Drop Knee Technique
- This technique can be practiced in scenarios that exclude junctional wounds. A wound cover is provided for these exercises.
Technical Features
- Anatomical Accuracy: The trainer simulates an adult male leg with an amputation at the knee, featuring realistic skin and tissue textures made from high-quality SKINlike™ silicone.
- Bony Landmarks and Vessel Palpation: Provides tactile realism for locating and treating damaged vessels.
- Immediate Feedback: Bleeding stops when a tourniquet is correctly applied.
- Modular Scenarios: Each wound can be hidden with a dedicated cover to create customizable training situations.
- Independent Bleeding Control: Each wound can bleed separately, simulating real-life emergency situations.
- Durable and Portable: Designed for field use, it requires no external power or batteries and is easy to transport in the included carrying bag.
Bleeding System
- Manual Pump and Blood Reservoir: A secure 2-liter blood reservoir simulates venous or arterial bleeding.
- Continuous Simulation: The system prevents backflow during wound packing for uninterrupted training.
- Artificial Blood: Includes 250 ml of concentrate to prepare 2 liters of artificial blood.
Included Items
- Trauma leg with 3 wound types (available in light or dark skin tones)
- 2 wound covers
